# cd git-1.6.1.2
# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/git
# make
# make install
# find /usr/local/git/ -print | wc -l
243
# cd ~
# download and install jdk-6u12-linux-i586.rpm, jre-1.6.0_12-fcs from java.sun.com
# /usr/java/jre1.6.0_12/bin/java -version
java version "1.6.0_12"

# yum install flex bison gperf SDL-devel.i386 ncurses-devel.i386
