柔弱美丽的斯巴达王后对自己的丈夫只说了一句话:“come back with your shield, or on it.”

后人为了纪念这些勇士,在他们的墓碑上刻上了他们最后的呼喊:“Go tell the Spartans, passerby, that here, by Spartans law, we lie.”(过客啊,告诉我们的斯巴达人,我们在这里浴血奋战,我们在这里永世长眠!)

Most histories suggest you take up something or other: the challenge of the future, a vision of the twenty-first century. Instead I’d like you to give up. Give up the nonsensical and tiring quest for perfection that follows too many of us through too much of our lives. It is a quest that causes us to doubt ourselves, our true selves.

George Eliot wrote, it is never too late to be what you might have been. It is never too early either. And it will make all the difference in the world. Take it from someone who has left the backpack full of bricks far behind. Everyday he feels light as a feather.
